Tassel Ridge® Iowa Prairie Snow Selected as Jefferson Cup Nominee
Tassel Ridge held a festive wine tasting event at their location December 9, 2010
Leighton, IA (December 20, 2010) – Tassel Ridge Iowa Prairie Snow was selected as a Jefferson Cup Nominee at the 11th Annual Jefferson Cup Invitational Wine Competition held in Kansas City, Missouri.
More than 600 wines which exemplify viticulture and wine making in America were pre-selected for the invitational competition. The wines came from across the U.S. and included wines from wine-producing states as diverse as California, Oregon, and Washington, and Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Of the more than 600 wines in the competition, only 70 were selected as Jefferson Cup Nominees. Tassel Ridge Iowa Prairie Snow was one of those 70 wines. In addition, “Medals of American Merit,” comparable to silver medals at most competitions, were awarded to Tassel Ridge In the Dark, Pizzeria & Pasta Too!™, 2008 Iowa St. Croix, and Iowa White Blossom.
“Tassel Ridge did very well at this year’s Jefferson Cup,” according to Doug Frost, founder of the competition, Master Sommelier, and Master of Wine. “The judges were particularly tough, and this year’s competition saw the lowest total medal percentage count.”
The Jefferson Cup Invitational was named after Thomas Jefferson. “While many may know him from his well-chronicled political role, most Americans have no idea just how influential Jefferson was in the way we eat and drink and live today,” Frost said. “Mr. Jefferson was growing grapes that did not really come into vogue in this country until 20 years ago!”
