Supervisors Talk Insurance And Animal Control Agreements
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Supervisors met in regular session on Monday, June 3rd, 2019.
The board heard from Judy Funk, who represents Heartland Insurance Pool. Mahaska County, along with nine other counties own Heartland for their self-insurance needs.
Funk went through the documentation for the 2019-20 renewal on the county insurance plan.
The board approved the renewal of their insurance for the upcoming fiscal year.
The board approved a payroll change for the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office. That change involved jail staff to fill an open position.
The board approved a petition from the Iowa Department of Human Resources to suspend property taxes on a property located on Pearl Street in New Sharon, Iowa.
The property owner will be responsible for paying back all of the taxes at the appropriate time with no interest or penalty.
Mahaska County Supervisor Steve Wanders said the last time he was informed this happened goes back to 1998.
The Supervisors approved a contract with Land Recyclers Inc. for tower site environmental services that the new radio communications system will use.
The board appointed Paul DeGeest to the Civil Service Commission.
The board then approved to repost the position of Mahaska County Engineer.
During the last search, one individual expressed interest in the position but later decided not to take the job.
The board decided they want to re-evaluate the 28E agreement versus amend the document with Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Groenendyk expressed he would like to have a clean document that doesn’t reference past agreements.
The motion to amend the agreement was tabled.
The board set the next meeting for Monday, June 17th for 3:00 pm in the 3rd Floor Conference Room.
