Supervisors Canvass Municipal Runoff Election

Dave Dixon discusses the fine points of the quit claim deed to the Supervisors Monday morning

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Besides canvassing the vote, the Supervisors also heard from Dave Dixon representing Mahaska Health Partnership over the matter of a corrective quit claim deed on a portion of the property that was still listed as Mahaska County as the owner of the land.

The last time the deed had been updated was 1916, but over the years the name of the hospital has evolved from the day when it was the Mahaska County Hospital to Mahaska Health Partnership and many variations over time since then.

With construction underway, and financing for the project needing to have all the legal descriptions taken care of, the Supervisors agreed to passing the resolution on the quit claim deed clearing up the discrepancy.

The main reason for the special meeting Monday was the canvassing or certification of the vote from the the runoff election held on December 6th.

Four persons were on the ballot in the runoff election in Beacon for the two remaining city council seats. The projected winners are (vote totals in parentheses) Ron Ferree (21) and Jim Hughes (18) over Darrell Rust (12) and Derek Sellars (15).
Rose Hill was filling one council position during their runoff election. Mike Hicklin (14) was announced as the projected winner over Crystal Mullins (3).
In the tightest vote of the evening, University Park was looking to fill its final council seat. Arlen Phillips (22) is projected to narrowly defeat Write-In Candidate Colleen Platt (21). Also getting votes were Zac Samuels (3), Write-In candidate Alwyn Hall (1), and Write-In candidate Jim Hall (1).
