Summer Reading Program Comes To An End

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Public Library was buzzing with activity on Saturday. The cool confines of the building helped young and old beat the blistering heat, all while enjoying some good fun.

The program got underway at the beginning of June and ran until July 22nd. The focus of the program is to read, and “we always want kids to come in and continue to read throughout the summer,” says Gaughan.

Library Director Marion Gaughan said the program was “fantastic, with over 650 people registered.”

During the summer, the reading program featured many events for young and old alike. Presentations for adults included “Create and Donate” where individuals knitted or crocheted a hat or scarf for the winter coat drive.

Programs for the youth included a magician, nature programs, and more.

Those 650 individuals included people of all ages that spent “thousands of hours reading.” Gaughan said it’s been a “really great program” and the event on Saturday was to have a nice send-off for all the summer reading efforts.

Grand prize drawing was held at 2 o’clock, and winners had to be present in order to win. “There was a lot of good stuff that happened during the summer,” added Gaughan.
