Streaking Penn Women Jump Back to #26
Oskaloosa–As the Lady Statesmen cagers continue to win, they continue to earn more and more respect as the sixth NAIA Division II poll was released today.
Penn (16-6, 6-1 MCC), winners of six straight, jumped 15 spots from 40th to 26th with 59 points. The team, who is just 13 points away from #25 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.), has again matched its highest ranking since joining the NAIA in 2001-2002.
All six of the squad’s setbacks this winter have come against programs currently ranked or were ranked or receiving votes at the time of the loss.
Davenport (Mich.) remains #1 for the third week in a row with 436 points and all 16 first-place votes. Northwestern and Morningside are still second and third, respectively, while St. Francis (Ind.) and Black Hills State (S.D.) conclude the top five.
St. Ambrose, whom Penn is tied with atop the Midwest Collegiate Conference standings, leads a foursome of ranked squads from the MCC. The Queen Bees are #11, while Iowa Wesleyan is 14th and Mount Mercy is tied for 39th. Including Penn, eight programs from the state of Iowa are represented in the top 25 or are receiving votes.
Penn travels to Forest City tonight to face Waldorf in MCC play at 5:30 p.m.
