Statesmen Qualify Second at Glenn Carlson

Las Vegas, Nev.–With six individuals averaging over 200, the William Penn men’s bowling team nearly topped qualifying at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
WPU qualified second out of 37 teams with 9,894 pins in nine regular games, while Webber International (Fla.) held off the Statesmen charge with 10,002 pins.
Unfortunately, the navy and gold were tripped up in the opening round of bracket competition by #15 seed Life (Ga.), falling 3-2 (210-151, 168-217, 180-191, 225-199, 201-214). WIU held its seed and also took the bracket crown.
Matthew Russo of WIU headlined the 256-player qualifying field with a 251.1 average (2,260 pins).
Two William Penn rollers were in the top 10 overall, led by Aleksander Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) at 229.8; Kostric eclipsed the 200 mark in all nine rounds. Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was right behind him in 10th place at 225.0.
Nick Walker (Sr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) narrowly missed the top 25 at 216.3, while Rok Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) averaged 224.5 pins in eight starts.
Logan Mason (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) owned a 218.3 clip in four games, and David Decker (Jr.., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) posted a 209.7 average in three rounds.
Jayson Miner (Fr., Silvis, Ill., Physical Education) started three games as well with a 185.3 average.
