Oskaloosa–The William Penn baseball team is projected to be right in the thick of things as the Midwest Collegiate Conference preseason coaches’ poll was released today.

The Statesmen, who were 23-18 overall last year, won the 2013 MCC regular season crown with a 12-8 mark. They have been picked to finish second in the seven-team league with 25 points and one first-place vote.

Defending tournament champion Grand View tops the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes. Clarke, with the final first-place vote, is third with 24 points, while St. Ambrose has 23 points and Viterbo has 21.

Mount Mercy (13 points) is a distant sixth. First-year program AIB rounds out the poll with six points.
