Statesmen of the Week: Xzavion West and Tatiana Paragas

Oskaloosa–Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) and Tatiana Paragas (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Exercise Science) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of January 12-18.

West won two titles at the Central Dutch Athletics Classic last Friday. The senior took the shot put crown with a toss of 53-1.5, but was even more impressive in the weight throw with a winning distance of 61-2.25. His weight throw performance not only won the event, but also hit the automatic-qualifying standard.

Paragas won the William Penn Open last Sunday with a perfect 3-0 mark, while outscoring her opponents 31-0. She opened with a 10-0 technical fall of Madison Rich of Ottawa (Kan.) before defeating Lacey Reed of Iowa Central CC via an 11-0 technical fall. The freshman capped the day with a 10-0 technical fall of No. 20 nationally-ranked Peyton Hand of Ottawa in the championship match.
