Statesmen of the Week: Showalter Johnson and MacKenzie Petersen
Oskaloosa–Men’s track and field athlete Showalter Johnson (So., Nassau, Bahamas, Business Management) and women’s lacrosse player MacKenzie Petersen (Sr., Albertville, Minn., Public Accounting) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of February 13-19, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.
Johnson became the fastest 60-meter dash sprinter in not only William Penn history, but also in Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship history as he broke the school record and the league meet record with a winning time of 6.72 seconds. He now ranks fourth in the NAIA entering nationals. Last weekend, the sophomore also qualified for nationals in the 200-meter dash with a third-place time of 21.86 seconds.
Petersen opened the week with three goals and one assist in William Penn’s 15-10 win over Cornell last Friday. She then recorded an even more stellar performance against Wartburg in a 13-4 victory last Sunday, scoring on all four of her shots in addition to assisting once. The senior also tallied five ground balls and caused five turnovers.
