Statesmen of the Week: Showalter Johnson and Alexandra Rose

Oskaloosa–Men’s track and field athlete Showalter Johnson (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas, New Media) and women’s track and field athlete Alexandra Rose (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of April 29-May 5, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Johnson claimed numerous points at last weekend’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship. He headlined his weekend with a conference title in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.40 seconds.

The junior was also second in the 200-meter dash in 21.58 seconds (21.29 in the prelims). Additionally, he helped the 4×100 (42.45) and 4×400-meter relay teams (3:23.92) to fifth-place finishes.

Overall, Johnson earned one first-team, one second-team, and two honorable-mention all-Heart laurels.

Rose claimed two all-Heart laurels (both honorable mentions), paced by a fifth-place effort in the 100 in 12.87 seconds. The junior also placed fourth as a member of the 4×1 crew in 49.02 seconds.

Rose ended up 14th in the 200 (26.65) as well.

This marks the final Statesmen of the Week for the 2023-2024 school year.
