Statesmen of the Week: Landon Krause and Laila Smith

Oskaloosa–Men’s volleyball player Landon Krause (Sr., Appleton, Wis., Business Management) and softball player Laila Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash., Elementary Education) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of March 11-17, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Krause opened his week with 12 kills against Graceland last Tuesday. He hit .632 in the sweep, while also recording two aces, three digs, and two block assists. Two days later in a four-set win over Kansas Wesleyan, the senior tallied a double-double of 23 kills (.405 attack clip) and 15 digs. He managed three aces, two assists, and four blocks as well.

Smith dominated opposing pitching to the tune of a .609 batting average (14-for-23). She tallied six doubles and one home run, while also managing six runs and four RBIs. In eight games, the freshman had four multi-hit performances, led by a 4-for-4 outing against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
