Statesmen Lose 43-6 to Top-Ranked Vikings
Oskaloosa–Wins by two of its best grapplers could not get the William Penn wrestling team past the best team in the NAIA, falling 43-6 to Grand View in dual meet action Tuesday.
The Vikings (11-0), ranked #1 in the nation, won the first three matches to pull ahead 16-0 entering 149 pounds.
That is when Eric Burgey (So., Easton, Pa., Easton HS) hit the mat. While the top-ranked wrestler did not have it easy, he was able to keep his record perfect (11-0) with a 3-2 victory over TJ Moen, who is ranked #5 nationally himself.
Grand View went on another three-win streak, including two more falls, to lock up the victory.
The final contested matchup saw the Statesmen (1-5) double their final tally with a 5-2 win by Kyle Soderblom (Fr., Newton, Lynnville-Sully HS) over Tyler Pullin at 184 pounds.
William Penn forfeited the final two weights to the Vikings.
