Statesmen Dominate in Home Opener Versus Waldorf

Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s wrestling team dominated in its first home dual of the 2025-2026 season Friday, beating Waldorf 45-3 in a non-conference dual.

WPU (1-5, 0-5 Heart) went down 3-0 after the first match, but the Warriors (0-6, 0-5 GPAC) had zero answer for the navy and gold the rest of the way. William Penn would go on to win nine straight, while five came by way of pinfall.

133-pounder Jeffery Myers (Sr., Yelm, Wash., Secondary Education) and 141-pounder Lane Scorpil (Sr., Columbus Junction, Iowa, Business Management) jump-started the Statesmen, both claiming pinfalls to put WPU ahead 12-3.

At 149 pounds Brody Brisker (Fr., Wilton, Iowa, Sports Management) picked up a 7-3 decision, pushing the William Penn lead to 15-3.

Again WPU would have back-to-back pinfalls, including 157-pounder Trent Evans (Jr., Houston, Texas, Mechanical Engineering) in 1:41, followed by 165-pounder Travis Coleman (Fr., Murrieta, Calif., Education) in 2:40.

Kendal Pugh (So., Letts, Iowa, Business Management) claimed a late reversal to secure a victory, claiming the 7-1 decision at 174 pounds as the Statesmen would extend their lead to 30-3.

Then, for the third time in the dual, William Penn would double up on pinfalls. 184-pounder Francisco Espinoza (Jr., Oakley, Calif., Sociology) and 197-pounder LaDainian Gordon (Jr., Centennial, Colo., Nursing) both accomplished the great in the first period, putting WPU up 42-3.

Skyler Young (So., Eddyville, Iowa, Physical Education) closed the night by winning a chippy 5-2 match in the 285-pound weight class, putting the final touches on a commanding 45-3 victory.
