Statesmen Begins Competition Season at York, Concordia
York, Neb./Seward, Neb.–The William Penn cheerleading team opened its competition campaign with two meets Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, WPU finished 10th out of 10 teams at the York Crown Classic with a score of 58.33 points. Grand View topped the standings with 84.88 points.
William Penn then stayed in the Cornhusker State Saturday, traveling to the Concordia Day of Duals. The navy and gold began the day in a triangular with Doane and Waldorf where they finished third in the group with 58.05 points, while Doane had 68.6 points and Waldorf was at 63.15.
In its second competition of the day, WPU was defeated by Hastings 65.45-57.15.
“After taking a year off from competing last year, I believe we lost some of the momentum we had on the competition floor,” Head Coach Abby Reynolds said. “This weekend was a good way for this young team to get out the jitters and learn what it takes to compete.”
“This team is very special; we are hitting stunts we never have in my tenure here and accomplishing new goals,” Reynolds added. “We just have to breath and go out there as a team to hit our performance. I believe we can do this and I am looking forward to this week to show off our talents.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Marshall, Mo. next Saturday to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship.
