Statesmen Advance to Bracket Tournament at Glenn Carlson

Las Vegas, Nev.–The William Penn men’s bowling squad made it to the second part of the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, but unfortunately could not advance past the opening round Monday and Tuesday.

WPU finished 12th out of 36 teams with 8,566 pins in nine regular games, while Webber International (Fla.) won qualifying with 9,548 pins.

The navy and gold qualified for the 16-team bracket tournament, but were unable to upset #5 seed Newman (Kan.) in the first round, falling by a score of 3-2. #2 seed Wichita State (Kan.) eventually took home the bracket crown.

Westley Low of Wichita State led the 244-person field with a 233.9 average, while Quincy Bruce (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting) joined him in the top 10 by placing 10th with a 211.6 clip.

Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) started all nine games as well with a 185.2 average, while David Decker (So., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) (197.6), Nick Walker (Jr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) (182.7), and Sean Martin (Fr., Dayton, Ohio, Mechanical Engineering) (177.3) all started three games.

Rok Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) only competed in three rounds, but was spectacular with a 228.0 mark. Aleksander Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) (two games, 146.5) and Josh Fane (So., Brownsville, Wis., Business Management and Accounting) (one game, 115) rounded out the team’s scoring.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Las Vegas Wednesday and Thursday to compete in the Las Vegas Collegiate Shoot-Out.
