Stanbro To Compete In Distinguished Young Women of Iowa
Maycie Stanbro, 17, of Oskaloosa will compete in the Distinguished Young Women of Iowa scholarship competition in February. Maycie is a senior at Oskaloosa High School and plans to major in theater education at the University of Northern Iowa upon graduation.
Distinguished Young Women of Iowa is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.
College scholarships are awarded at the state level ($7,400 last year) and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1.1 billion nationally). And one Iowa representative will advance to the national program in Mobile, Alabama where they give away $150,000 in cash tuition scholarships.
Participants arrive in Coralville on February 14 and participate in workshops that include interviewing and public speaking, perform community service work, and prepare for the final competition which will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2017 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
Maycie will be performing a cello solo for her talent portion of the competition. Contestants are judged on academics, talent, personal interview, “Being Your Best Self” and fitness.
