Seventh graders honored by Optimists

Two Oskaloosa Middle School students were honored Wednesday by the Oskaloosa Optimist Club as the seventh grade students of the trimester. The two students named were Sihan Chang and Efrain Garcia Jr.
Teachers and staff of the middle school from a list of 24 nominees selected Chang and Garcia.
Middle school principal Andy Hotek, and chairman of the Students of the Trimester program for the club, presented the plaques along with club president Keith Comfort.
Hotek said the students are examples and role models for the students at the middle school. While the other nominated students are also examples of students with character, Chang and Garcia were honored for their performance in and out of the classroom.
Other students nominated were, Bailey Blythe, Melanie Harvery, Tori Palmer, Alex Shaffer, Matt Presley, Joe Sterner, Haley Bunnell, Marina Shano, Sereena Cheney, Jamie VerSteegh, Austin Scholes, Brady DeJong, Hunter Newman, Adam Lenox, Jamie Holmberg, Madison McQueen, Jamilyn VerSteegh, Nicole Strasser, Anna Kain, Austin Reed, Collin Palmer and Shaelynn Mateer.
The Oskaloosa Optimist Club meets at Smokey Row at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays. The youth service organization provides kids with opportunities to reach their goals and aspirations through a variety of sponsored activities.
