Seed Savers Exchange Presentation

Iowa State University Extension

Mahaska County, Iowa – The Mahaska County Master Gardeners annually host speakers for the public. 2012 has a bonus session. Diane Ott Whealy, co-founder of Seed Savers will be speaking on February 28 at 3 pm at the Mahaska County Extension Office Auditorium. This meeting is open to the public, does not require a reservation, and there is no fee. All interested gardeners are encouraged to attend.

Over 35 years ago, two seeds (Grandpa Ott’s morning glory and German Pink tomato) began what is now Seed Savers Exchange. It is now one of the most important vehicles for storage and distribution of heirloom and other open-pollinated seeds. Over 600 varieties of seeds are offered for sale to the public. The seed sales support their mission of educating the general public about heirloom gardening, saving seeds, and production of healthy safe food.
