School Board Reviews Policies
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa School Board met in session on July 16, 2019, at 6 pm.
The Board approved the hiring of Megan Baker as Oskaloosa Middle School Special Education and Dustin Harbour as Oskaloosa Elementary School 4th Grade Teacher.
Also approved was the hiring of Anna Schaefer as Color Guard Coach and Kelly Luck as Oskaloosa Middle School Basketball Coach.
The Board approved the appointment of Level 1 and Level 2 Investigators for the District. Those individuals are trained to investigate allegations of abuse of students by school district employees. The Oskaloosa Police Department was named the Level 2 investigators.
The Board also approved an increase in pay for substitute teachers for the year 2019-2020. The current rate was $115 per day, and the increase brought the pay up to $120 per day to stay competitive with area schools.
The increase will cost the District approximately $12,000.00 extra to implement.
The District is moving forward with the award of a contract for the old Community Stadium track refurbishment. The bid came in at $125,900.00. If the base of the track needs more work than initially thought, the district has the option of backing out of the bid.
The Board also approved the final reading of revised Board Policies 504-505.
Board Policy 104 involves the Anti-Bullying/Harassment Policy, and the Board approved reviewing that policy annually.
The last policy to be reviewed was Board Policy 203, which deals with financial conflict of interest limits.
The Iowa Legislature changed those limits in their most recent session, and the policy reflects those changes, moving that financial limit from $2500 to $6000 annually.
The next meeting date is scheduled for August 13, 2019, at 6 pm.
