Samura’s Runner-Up in 400 Tops List at Dubuque
Oskaloosa–Several individuals gave the William Penn women’s track and field team hope that the second half of the indoor season could be a solid one as the program competed at the Dubuque Sol Butler Classic Saturday.
Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS) headlined her squad’s performance by finishing second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.52. The time was less than two seconds shy of the NAIA’s ‘B’ standard.
The Lady Statesmen placed eighth out of nine teams with 29 points, while Monmouth (Ill.) held off the crowd for the team title with 154 points.
Fourth-place finishes went to Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS) in the 200-meter dash (27.85 seconds) as well as the 4×400-meter relay team of Samura, Swinney, Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS), and Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS). The foursome finished in a time of 4:19.05.
Audre Harris (So., Johnson City, Kan., Allen CC) took home sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.27 seconds. She had the top preliminary time of 8.92 seconds.
Dishmon was also eighth in the 200 at 28.50 seconds and Myers joined her with the same showing in the 800-meter run (2:33.33).
Megan McDonough (Fr., Ottumwa, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) topped the field events by finishing seventh in the long jump at 15-7.75.
