Reynolds Says Trump Will Uphold RFS

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds spoke at a press conference in Pella on Wednesday in regards to the Renewable Fuel Standard.
Pella, Iowa – Iowa’s leaders became concerned when it appeared that the EPA opened up the Renewable Fuels Standard for comment, the agency could potentially decrease the amount of biofuels for the national standard.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the steps she and her administration were taking to address those concerns.
Reynolds said that as governor she understands how crucial a robust renewable fuel standard is to the farmers and the Iowa economy. “The renewable fuel standard plays a major role in sustaining our ability to continue as an agriculture leader by giving farmers another market for their commodity.”
Reynolds said she had met with Administrator Scott Pruitt about the RFS, and also held a phone conversation with President Donald Trump on the subject. “Both of them personally affirmed to me their continued commitment to the Renewable Fuel Standard.”
“The continued growth and success of the renewable fuels industry is critical, and it’s vital to both Iowa’s rural and urban communities,” said Reynolds.
The move to put pressure on the EPA was bipartisan in nature. Congressman Dave Loebsack released a statement, “The EPA must expand the RFS and the use of biofuels, not slash it. Folks in Iowa know that the RFS works. It cuts down on our dependence of foreign oil, creates jobs here at home, is better for our environment, and lowers the price of gasoline at the pump.”
