Putzier Notches Second Academic All-America Honor

Oskaloosa–Breck Putzier (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn., Exercise Science) closed out his William Penn career by being recognized as one of the NAIA’s top scholar-athletes as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Men’s At-Large teams were announced Wednesday.

Putzier was one of 10 individuals named to the First Team, while an additional 10 players from various sports collected Second-Team recognition.

The accolade is the second of his career; he is one of just three individuals on the list to repeat from a year ago.

The 21st CSC Academic All-American in WPU history, Putzier wrapped up his final Statesmen campaign by scoring a nation-best 116 points as an attacker, including 58 goals and 58 assists (seventh and first in the NAIA, respectively). He tallied 55 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers as well. The senior also won five of the seven faceoffs in which he participated.

A First-Team All-American from the NAIA, Putzier scored at least one point in all but one game this spring, with a high of 15 and a low of just four. He reached double figures in points on four occasions.

The prestigious award from CSC recognizes athletes for their performances on the field and in the classroom.

To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been enrolled at the nominating institution for one year (transfers use grades from their previous institution), and have a 3.50 Grade Point Average. Additional competition criteria is also required.
