Putzier, Garigan Sweep Heart Accolades

Oskaloosa–Breck Putzier (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn., Exercise Science) and Eric Garigan (Grad., Tucson, Ariz., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) guided their squad past a top-five program, and their efforts helped them earn Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player and Defensive Player and of the Week honors Monday.

Putzier garnered his second Offensive laurel of the year (fifth of career), while Garigan notched his third career Defensive award (second of the year) as the then-#6 Statesmen upset then-#4 Indiana Tech 11-7 last Tuesday.

Putzier tallied just one goal, but had five assists in the win. The junior also managed one ground ball and one caused turnover.

Garigan led a stingy defense against the Warriors, facing just 20 total shots and saving 13 of them. The graduate student collected one ground ball as well.

For the year, Putzier has produced 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 total points, while also posting 20 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Garigan owns a 7-1 record with 77 saves (.606 save percentage) and a 6.69 Goals Against Average. He has also tallied 12 ground balls.

The awards are WPU’s third and fourth of the year.
