Pernell Named Heart POW

Oskaloosa–Jessie Pernell (Sr., North Augusta, Ga., Physical Education) guided his team to a big win over a ranked foe and his efforts earned him Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors Monday.

A first-time recipient, Pernell scored 29 points with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals as #6 William Penn defeated #13 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 92-76 last Saturday. The senior connected on nine of his 18 field goals (4-for-7 3-PT) and was perfect in seven tries at the free-throw line. He was strongest in the first half with 18 points prior to intermission.

For the year, Pernell is averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He is shooting 45.6% from the field (42.2% 3-PT) and 78.6% from the stripe.

The award is the first for William Penn this year.
