Pedal For Polio Successful First Year Event

The Oskaloosa Rotary Club held their trail access dedication and benefit ride on Saturday. Jill Brumbaugh and Doug Mills cut the ribbon, officially opening the access.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – After it’s announcement in the first part of last year, the trail access has been helping trail users enjoy easier access.

On Saturday, the 60 member strong Oskaloosa Rotary Club celebrated the dedication of the Rotary Trail Access and launched, what is hoped to be, an annual fundraiser to help wipe out polio worldwide.

Most of us in the United States think of polio as a thing of the past, but in certain parts of the world it’s still destroying lives. Rotary has taken on the task of helping to eradicate Polio as one of it’s goals.

So for $10.00 per person, or $20.00 per family, over 15 riders took off down the trail, with their next stop being a water station set up for them in University Park. All of the proceeds raised from the ride are going towards Polio Plus, the Rotary International campaign to end Polio.

Past Club President Jill Brumbaugh and new President Doug Mills cut the ribbon to dedicate that portion of the trail access. Once all the riders had taken off down the trail, one of the special carts that is used for trail tours by MCRF took off with 5 sightseers. MCRF Trail Tram tours are available by calling 641-672-2499 to make reservations today.
