Paye, Weaver Sweep League Awards
Oskaloosa–Tony Paye (Fr., Johnston, Iowa, Exercise Science) and Anthony Weaver (So., Demopolis, Ala., Mechanical Engineering) excelled in their disciplines last weekend, and for those efforts they were able to sweep the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors Monday, presented by BoxOut.
Paye’s laurel is his first as a collegiate athlete, while Weaver is now a two-time league recipient (both this year). They netted their recognition after posting impressive numbers at the Grinnell Invitational last Saturday.
Paye eclipsed the ‘B’ national-qualifying standard in the 60-meter hurdles with a winning time of 8.14 seconds. The freshman also took sixth in the 60-meter dash finals (7.17 seconds), while qualifying third in 7.05 seconds.
Weaver matched his teammate with gold, doing so in the triple jump at 46-10.25. The sophomore placed third in the long jump as well with a distance of 21-1.5.
Paye currently sits third on the Heart’s performance list in the hurdles, 15th in the 60, and 20th in the 200-meter dash (22.64).
Weaver heads the conference’s triple jump list (48-7.25), while also being 13th in the long jump.
WPU now has four awards this year.
