Parks Saves 20 in 1-0 Loss to Ashford

The William Penn Lady Statesmen fell short against Ashford Wednesday night at home

Oskaloosa–Ali Parks (So., Omaha, Neb., Central HS) gave her team all she had in the best game of her collegiate career, but the Lady Statesmen were unable to reward their goalkeeper in a 1-0 setback to Ashford in Midwest Collegiate Conference play Wednesday.

William Penn (1-7-1, 0-3 MCC) allowed 35 shots by the Saints (6-3-1, 3-0 MCC), but Parks snagged ball after ball.  The sophomore collected 20 saves (11 in the second half), the most for a Lady Statesmen goalkeeper since Katie Burnett also had 20 on September 19, 2009 against Grand View.

In a game that was destined for extra periods, Ashford scored with just five minutes left and possessed the ball much of the final minutes to remain perfect in the league.

Brittany Hajicek (Sr., Grand Prairie, Texas, Mansfield Timberview HS) tallied two shots (both on goal) to guide a navy and gold offense that posted seven attempts on the evening.

Next: William Penn travels to La Crosse, Wis. Saturday to face Viterbo in MCC action at 1 p.m.
