Pair of Double-Doubles Help Helmick to League Award
Oskaloosa–Matt Helmick (Jr., Fullerton, Calif., Business Management) was productive in numerous facets last week and he was rewarded for that by earning Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball Setter of the Week honors Monday.
Helmick collected his first weekly laurel after guiding William Penn to a pair of sweeps, including the program’s first-ever win at Grand View.
The junior started the week with 31 assists (10.3 per set) against Graceland last Tuesday, while also recording 11 digs for a double-double. He tallied two kills and one block assist as well.
Helmick nearly replicated that outing three nights later versus #4 Grand View. In the sweep, the setter assisted 30 times and also dug 10 attacks for another double-double. He also managed one kill and one block assist.
For the year, Helmick has 328 assists with 10 kills (.250 attack pct.), 52 digs, nine blocks (eight assists), and four aces. He has had at least 30 assists in six matches this season.
The award is the first for the Statesmen this year.
