Oskaloosa Girls Wrestling Earns Three Wins Against Newton

The Oskaloosa girls wrestling team hosted Newton in a dual meet Thursday night, with four wrestlers taking the mat for the Indians. Despite being outnumbered, Oskaloosa’s wrestlers put up a strong fight, securing three individual victories. Newton came away with the team win, 42-13, largely due to forfeited matches.

At 110 pounds, Alyssa Sheets delivered a dominant performance, pinning her opponent in just 1:11. Mia Luck (135 lbs) earned a hard-fought 10-3 decision over her Newton counterpart, while Aleigha Sheets (145 lbs) added a 9-0 major decision to round out Oskaloosa’s scoring.

Newton capitalized on their larger lineup, winning six matches by forfeit and one by fall. Oskaloosa’s lone loss on the mat came at 120 pounds, where Julianna Maldonado-Hidalgo of Newton pinned Jaylynn Kerr in the second period.
