The Oskaloosa Friday after Five committee has been preparing since last year for the 2011 season and they have a great line up of entertainment scheduled. The event takes place each Friday from 5 – 8 pm on the east side of the Oskaloosa square. Food and drinks are available. The cost to get into the beverage garden area is $5.00 and you must be at least 21 years of age. Many families choose to bring their lawn chairs and hang out in the city park and listen to the bands perform.
The 2011 kickoff is Friday, June 3rd and will feature the band Gimikk. Gimikk has been playing in the Des Moines and Central Iowa area for 8 years and with their high-energy performance and amazing music skills, they have been dubbed as “The Best Party Band in Des Moines”. This will be Gimikk’s third time performing at the Oskaloosa event. Papa Murphy’s will be the food vendor for the June 3rd kickoff.
On Friday, June 10th, it will be the eighth year that Standing Hampton has performed at Friday after Five and they always draw huge crowds whenever they perform. Capturing the sound and magic of the glory days of classic rock, Standing Hampton performs the best musical nuggets of the 70’s, 80’s and beyond. Enjoy food from Mr. Taco.
Friday, June 17th will feature the Joel Pinkerton Duo from New Sharon. Making their first appearance at Friday After Five, the Joel Pinkerton Duo will perform songs that range from contemporary rock / pop covers to classic rock to singer-songwriter hits that appeal to all audiences. Food will be served by the Cattleman’s Association.
Friday June 24th also brings a new face to the Friday After Five stage: Damon Dotson. Damon’s emotionally charged live performances inspire audiences with a fresh honesty that leaves you wanting more. His thought-provoking lyrics and smooth acoustic guitar rhythms will get you moving and put a smile on your face. Hy-Vee will be the food vendor.
The season concludes on Friday July 1st with the return of Fatal Addiction. This will be the third time the Oskaloosa based band has played Friday After Five. The rock sounds of Fatal Addiction always draw big crowds. Mr. Taco will return as the food vendor to close out the 2011 season.
