Oskaloosa Fire Department Quickly Extinguishes House Fire

The Oskaloosa Fire Department was dispatched to 103 16th Avenue East shortly after 9:30 pm on Thursday evening due to reports of heavy smoke coming from the residence.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department was dispatched to 103 16th Avenue East shortly after 9:30 pm on Thursday evening due to reports of heavy smoke coming from the residence.

Upon arrival, a glow could be seen coming from the northwest roof of the home.

Firefighters acted quickly to knock down the flames and prevent further destruction. Damages are estimated at $60,000.

Sixteen Oskaloosa firefighters were on the scene for an hour-and-a-half.

Oskaloosa Fire Captain Dave Christensen says the cause of the fire is discarded smoking material, and ruled accidental.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Oskaloosa Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, and the Mahaska County 911 Dispatch Center.
