Oskaloosa City Band Selections for July 7th Concert

The Oskaloosa City Band held their weekly performance Thursday June 30, 2011. They will once again be in concert July 7 on the square in downtown Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Band welcomes Nathan Smith as conductor this week. Mr. Smith, who usually plays oboe in the band, is the choral and band director at Melcher-Dallas Community Schools.
This week’s marches include John Philip Sousa’s “King Cotton” and Karl King’s “United Nations March”. The band will play several Barnhouse publications, including: “Encanto” by Robert W. Smith, “An English Celebration” by James Swearingen, “Faces of the World” by Ed Huckeby, and “I Left My Hear in San Francisco” arranged by Alfred Reed.
The audience may recognize other tunes including: “Instant Concert” by Harold Walters, and “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” arranged by Jay Dawson. Movie enthusiasts will enjoy “Music from Pirates of the Carribean”, arranged by Michael Brown. This week’s western overture is “The Wild Westerns”, arranged by Michael Story.
Join friends and family, in experiencing a relaxing evening on the Oskaloosa square, beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, You can also enjoy refreshments provided by local business each week. In the event of inclement weather, the band will perform at Smokey Row Coffee House.
