Oskaloosa City Band Prepares To Play In The Heat

The Oskaloosa City Band during one of the weekly performances every Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Band is prepared to play this week, no matter how hot the temperature is. The band will open and close the concert with lively marches by Henry Fillmore and Karl King.

Catching the latest release at the theater is often a destination on a hot summer day. To encourage memories of summer movies, the band will be playing music from three movies, including: “Accidentally In Love” from “Shrek 2”, “Build Me Up, Buttercup” from “There’s Something About Mary”, and “Theme from a Summer Place”. The arrangement the band will be playing of “Theme from a Summer Place” was specially commissioned by Eric Songer for the city band.

No concert would be complete without a “western overture”. This week, the band has the privilege of playing two such tunes, including “Cowboy Rhapsody” by Jerry Williams and “Smokey Mountain Rhapsody” by Ed Huckeby.

Check out the band’s new facebook page (Oskaloosa City Band Fan Page) and “like” it to receive the latest information regarding upcoming concerts. Announcements will also be made on KBOE if inclement weather or heat forces the band to perform at Smokey Row. The band hopes to see a big crowd at 8 p.m. on Thursday night at the bandstand.
