The Oskaloosa Municipal Band will present its first concert of the season on Thursday, June 2, at 8 p.m. in the bandstand on the Oskaloosa square. The band is under the direction of Bruce Peiffer, Director of Bands at North Mahaska High School. The members of the band include: residents of Oskaloosa, New Sharon, and Sigourney; along with high school students from Oskaloosa and North Mahaska. The band will open and close the concert with Karl King military marches, published locally, by Barnhouse Publishing. Other selections this week include: “Tricinium” (Barnhouse Publishing), “Malaguena”, “The Great Escape”, “Songs of Scotland”, “A Whole New World” (from the Disney movie, “Aladdin”), Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”, and “Trails of Glory”. The band will be playing old favorites, and a few new tunes as well. Please bring a chair or blanket, some friends or family, and join us for a night of music. In the event of inclement weather, the band will perform at Smokey Row Coffee House.
