Oskaloosa City Band for June 23
The Oskaloosa City Band, under the direction of Bruce Peiffer, is ready for another performance Thursday at 8 p.m. on the downtown square. Listening to the band with friends and family is a great way to end a busy summer day. If you know someone who has never been to a concert, or hasn’t been to one in awhile, invite them to this week’s event.
This week, we welcome Tara Carrico, choral director at North Mahaska Schools, to the microphone. Accompanied by the band, she will perform “The Girl From Impanema”, “Blue Moon” and “You Raise Me Up”. The audience may also recognize the band’s rendition of “Brown Eyed Girl”, originally recorded by Van Morrison. This week’s marches include John Philip Sousa’s “El Capitan” and Henry Fillmore’s “Men of Ohio”. Rounding out the concert are the following tunes published by Barnhouse: “Explorations” by Ed Huckeby, “Beautiful Savior” by James Swearingen, “West Highlands Sojourn” by Robert Sheldon, and “Prince of Wales” by Len Orcino. And finally, this week’s “western overture” will be Elmer Bernstein’s “The Magnificent Seven”.
We hope for clear skies, however, in the event of rain, the concert will go on at Smokey Row Coffee House on the west side of the square.
