Nick Abbott, 18, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, November 04, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born November 5, 1994, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Bryan Abbott and Cindy Herr. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2013. While in high school he was involved in soccer and choir. He was currently studying engineering at William Penn University. He worked as a lifeguard at Edmundson Pool and at the Oskaloosa Y.M.C.A. He was currently employed at Wal-Mart in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed playing soccer, video games, playing on the computer, and running. He was also involved in the youth group at Central Reformed Church. As a final act of generosity, Nick was an organ donor, his gift of organ donation will change many lives.

His family includes his mother and step father, Cindy and Brandon Harris of Des Moines, his father, Bryan Abbott of Canyon, Texas; a brother, Keland Harris of Des Moines; maternal grandparents, Dale and Ruth Herr of Centerville; paternal grandfather, Mickey Abbott of Canyon, Texas; a great grandmother, Odessia Parkhill of Canyon, Texas; and many aunts uncles cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Rita Schumacher.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Andy Baker officiating.
As was Nick’s wish, his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 3 p.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. The family will be at the church from 4 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
