Newman, Bishop Named November POM Recipients
Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the November Player of the Month laurels.
Senior men’s basketball player Karmari Newman (Detroit, Mich., Digital Communication) earned the Male award, while freshman women’s shotgun sports athlete Raylee Bishop (Ankeny, Iowa, Engineering) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for Newman, while Bishop is now a two-time honoree.
Over the span of six games, Newman averaged 26.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in addition to 13 assists and three steals. He shot 50.0% overall, including a 50.0% mark from the perimeter. The senior reached double figures in all six outings, headlined by two games with at least 35 points. During the month, Newman joined the 1,000-point club as he helped WPU to a perfect 6-0 record.
Bishop was instrumental in the Statesmen winning both of their tournaments, including the Iowa SCTP State Championship. She was the High Overall Athlete at that event and led female shooters in four separate disciplines during the month.
