Multiple Agencies Battle Stucture Fire Between New Sharon And Oskaloosa

And New Sharong Fire and Rescue Press Release

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 12:08 PM, the Mahaska County 911 Center received a report of a possible structure fire in the 1400 block of Merino Avenue. New Sharon Fire department was paged and en route with in four minutes of the 911 call. First arriving units arrived on scene within 10 minutes of the call to find three separate structures on fire along with a picked corn field. Oskaloosa Fire and Barnes City Fire were requested for mutual aid. Crews work tirelessly for 3 hours to extinguish the fires. The three structures involved are total losses. Approximately 50 acres of picked corn field was also burnt. There were no injures during this incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

New Sharon Fire would like to thank Stout Farms and Van Utrecht Farms for providing equipment and manpower to help extinguish the field fire and move debris around the structures.

New Sharon Fire was assisted by: Oskaloosa Fire Department, Barnes City Fire Department, New Sharon Police Department, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Mahaska County Communications Center, and Mahaska County Secondary Roads.
