Missoula Children’s Theater Brings Back Snow White

Kids from around the area tried out for this year’s production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, lead by Missoula Children’s Theater.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The stage was filled with dozens of kids of all ages on Monday, hoping to land a part in this years Missoula Children’s Theater production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The yearly production is the most community interactive productions that happen and is cast with 64 local children. Those performers will range in age from kindergarten to 12th grade.
The Missoula Children’s Theater has hosted the production in Oskaloosa before, but George Daily’s Andy McGuire says that Missoula is often reworking the productions to stay as current as possible.
“I think with any of their [Missoula] fairytales that have come in, all of them have been tweaked just a little bit,” said McGuire.
The one thing that is for sure; there is a new cast of actors from the previous productions.
Each time there is a production with Missoula Children’s Theater, two directors work with and coach the kids in the week-long effort.
The directors swap their roles from location to location, one has a part in the show and is helping to guide performers on the stage. The second director is the backstage director.
“During the week though, they both do just about the same thing,” said McGuire. “In fact, they will often split into two different groups, and since both directors know the part, cause they switch off every different place, they know all the lines to go through every single part.”
Children auditioned for the show, and we cast and began rehearsal on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Then cast members would practice 4 hours every night during the week, leading up to their production on Saturday.

“I always like Missoula because it is such a rush,” said McGuire. “It’s a lot to do in one week.”
