MHP to Host Zimmer Mobile Learning Center

Mahaska Health Partnership

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mahaska Health Partnership will host the Zimmer Mobile Learning Center, a traveling orthopaedic facility, on Wednesday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the north parking lot between the Hospice Serenity House and the Medical Specialty Center on its campus in Oskaloosa.

The Zimmer Mobile Learning Center is a 45-foot, 18-wheel expandable vehicle that travels the United States offering free educational sessions on new advancements in joint replacement. The hands-on learning experience is free and open to the general public.

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the number of joint replacements is skyrocketing: currently, more than 475,000 U.S. residents undergo knee replacements annually, with the number expected to reach 3.4 million per year by 2030. In addition, the academy estimates that the number of annual hip replacements, currently 234,000, is expected to double by 2030.

MHP Orthopaedic Surgeon Sreedhar Somisetty, MD, said he invites anyone who wants to learn more about treatment options for joint pain, joint replacement surgery and other advancements in technology, to stop by and tour the facility. Professionals will be on hand to answer questions.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about some of the latest advancements in joint replacement,” Dr. Somisetty said.
