Oskaloosa, Iowa – E-Cycling helps to keep harmful substances from entering landfills, but it also helps to recover valuable resources that can be used to make a new product.

MCG has hosted the annual E-Cycling Event for over a decade now, amassing over 300,000 pounds of electronics since 2007, said Eddie Pierson of Mahaska Communications Group or MCG.

Pierson said this year’s participation seemed to be down some from previous years. “We’re not seeing as many of the big TV’s, which is nice for our backs. We like that.”

“I think people have finally gotten rid of all of those,” joked Pierson.

Many old computers and small monitors continue to find their way to the event.

The information on those computers is destroyed, so it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. Midwest Electronic Recovery works with MCG to destroy that data. “That does a really good job of responsibly destroying that information,” added Pierson.
