Mathys conference player of the week for third time

PELLA— For the third time this season, Central College men’s soccer goalkeeper Andrew Mathys (senior, Elburn, Ill., Kaneland HS) was named the American Rivers Conference defensive performer of the week Monday afternoon.

Mathys was in goal for all 180 minutes of Central’s two victories last week. He made three saves in a 2-1 victory over Simpson College on Wednesday and three more in a 1-0 triumph against Coe College on Saturday. The shutout against the Kohawks was his third in conference matches and sixth overall this season.

The senior was previously honored on September 2 and September 30 for his efforts.

The Dutch host Buena Vista University on Tuesday at noon from Pella’s A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex. With a victory, Central (13-2-2, 5-1-1 conference) will win its first conference title in the program’s history.
