Physicals will be offered by Pediatrician John O’Brien, MD, and Adult Nurse Practitioner Lisa Nelson, both located on the MHP campus in Oskaloosa, 410 North 12th Street. Appointments are available Monday and Wednesday between 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. or Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. by calling 641-672-3360.
Exams at New Sharon Medical Center, located at 112 South Main Street, will be available by appointment Mondays from 1:00 to 4:30 pm; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday from 8:30 am to Noon. Appointments are required, so please call 641-637-2651.
A sports physical is required by most schools annually, prior to an athlete’s participation in a new sport or competitive season. The two main parts of the exam will be the collection of your medical history and a physical exam to assess your well-being as it relates to participation in a sport. “The medical history is possibly the most important part of the sports physical,” Nelson said. “Looking at patterns of illness in your family is a very good indicator of any potential conditions you may have.”
If you have questions about the requirements for your child’s school, please contact the school. For more information about how Mahaska Health Partnership is making healthcare personal, visit mahaskahealth.org.
