Ames, Ia. – The Mahaska County U-14 Boys soccer team went 4-0 on their way to winning the 2011 Kohls Cup on June 11 and 12.

The team, made up of local athletes ages 12-14, outscored opponents 19-7 while on their way to win the tournament for the second year in a row. They started off Saturday by beating the Carlisle Crush 5-1. Later that day the team needed a last minute goal to beat the Garner Hurricanes 3-2, putting Mahaska County in sole possession of first place going into the tournament’s final day.

On Sunday, Mahaska County needed just a win and a tie to claim the title and took the field against the Newton Nighthawks. A tie game after the first half, Mahaska County opened up the floodgates scoring three unanswered goals to beat Newton 5-2.

Needing just a tie to claim the title, Mahaska County finished strong by beating Boone Soccer Club 6-2. The team is the first Mahaska County boys team to win Kohls Cup two years in a row.
