Visitation: will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday afternoon, January 19, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, January 20, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Interment: Beacon Cemetery
Les passed away early Monday morning at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 6 days.
Leslie Wayne Sherman, son of Paul Wayne and Ramona Joyce Poe Sherman, was born March 10, 1951 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1969 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Les initially worked for Pella Corporation and then drove a truck for different trucking companies. He was lastly employed as a welder and painter at Vermeer Manufacturing for 15 years, until his health required his retirement in 2008. In his free time, Les enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR and N.F.L. football. He loved his dogs and spending time with his grandson, Darrick.
Les’ family includes his daughter, Rita Van Dyke of, FL; his grandson, Darrick Van Dyke, also of Zephyrhills; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Diana Sherman of Oskaloosa; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam & Lee Adams of Beacon; and aunts: Shirley Mitrisin of Beacon, Bonnie Stout of New Sharon and Patricia Vance of Tracy.
Les was preceded in death by his parents.
