Krause, Palumbo Named March Players of the Month
Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the March Player of the Month laurels.
Senior men’s volleyball player Landon Krause (Appleton, Wis., Business Management) earned the Male award, while junior women’s wrestler Mia Palumbo (Oak Lawn, Ill., Exercise Science) claimed the Female honor. The laurel is the second for both individuals in their careers.
Over the span of 13 matches (WPU was 12-1 in March), Krause produced 183 kills (3.81 per set) on a .313 attacking clip. He also notched 17 aces, 96 digs (2.00 per set), and 48 blocks (three solos, 45 assists, 1.00 per set). The senior produced four double-doubles (kills and digs) with season highs in kills (23) and digs (15) coming against Kansas Wesleyan on March 14.
A three-time Heart Player of the Week during March (twice as a Defender, once as an Attacker), Krause also won one NAIA Defender of the Week laurel.
Palumbo became the first national champion in William Penn women’s wrestling history during March. She won all four of her matches at NAIA Nationals, including back-to-back technical falls to reach the semifinals. She then scored a late four-point move to advance to the third final of her collegiate career. Already a two-time national runner-up, Palumbo finally rose to the pinnacle of the podium by defeating Jasmine Howard of Texas Wesleyan 3-1 in the championship match.
