Oskaloosa, Iowa – A kitchen fire at a popular local restaurant on Sunday afternoon caused the evacuation of the patrons.

Smoke quickly filled Mi Ranchito Mexican Restaurant, located at 112 1st Ave E, on the south side of the Oskaloosa square. Firefighters quickly responded, extinguishing the fryer fire that, eventually, had firefighters hosing down the exterior of the building as well.

Two employees of the restaurant suffered minor burns to their hands, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the investigation continues.

Besides the Oskaloosa Fire Department, the Oskaloosa Police Department, the Mahaska County Sheriffs Department and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services all responded to the scene.
