Johnson, Royal Win Statesmen of the Week Honors

Oskaloosa–Men’s track and field athlete Showalter Johnson (Fr., Nassau, Bahamas) and women’s lacrosse player Bailee Royal (Jr., Hallsville, Texas, Sports Management) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of February 14-20, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Johnson was the fastest male on the track last Saturday, winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference 60-meter dash title in 6.83 seconds. He set a new school record in the process. The freshman also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.48 seconds.

Royal led WPU to a 12-6 season-opening win over Wartburg last Friday. She scored three goals on six shots in the victory, while also tallying four draw controls, five ground balls, and one caused turnover.
