Irene was born the daughter of Wilbur Elliott and Wilma Foster Doud on June 1, 1935 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Grinnell. She was united in marriage to Clyde Brant, Sr. on February 3, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked at Walmart in Newton for several years until her retirement in 2008.

Irene dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her enjoyments were playing bingo, playing the slot machines at Meskwaki, fishing, mowing her lawn, listening to country music, going to dances with her friends, and attending barbeques and family functions.

She is survived by her children, Donna (Carl) Noftsger of Colfax, Iowa, Clyde Brant, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Diana (Kim Foster) of Coralville, Iowa, Jim (Louise) Brant of Grinnell, and Cheryl Moyer of Grinnell; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Roger Lindell of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Vaughn of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marilyn Faulker of Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; her daughter, Linda Belcher; and her sister, Barbara Kizer.
