Hot Offense Guides WPU to Victory

Oskaloosa—William Penn faced off in non-conference action as they partook in the last of the homecoming action as they faced-off against Governors State.
The Statesmen (18-10) defeated Governors State (6-20) in straight sets (25-11, 25-21, 25-14) to sweep the match. The match was the second consecutive sweep for WPU following their dominating performance on Friday.
“It was fun to watch the girls tonight really get after it and be aggressive.” Said Head Coach Aleesha Cleaver, “We had a great crowd and it was awesome to see them come out strong on homecoming.”
Offensively, the navy and gold hit at a season high .363 clip overall. The attack was led by Corrin Lepper (Fr., Jefferson, Mo., Exercise Science) who broke into double-digits with 10 kills. Jordan Carter (Sr., Sigourney, Iowa, Elementary Education) finished with eight kills while Danielle Pendzinski (Jr., Winnebago, Ill., Elementary Education) and Nashali Cruz (So., Bayamon, P.R., Biology) each had seven a piece.
Pendzinski hit at an impressive .600 hit percentage to pace William Penn.
Elena Lucero (Fr., Yuba City, Calif., Political Science) led the Statesmen at the setter position producing 18 assists while Haley Smith (Sr., Adrian, Mich., Elementary Education) had herself a nice game as well, assisting on 16 kills.
“I thought our setters did a great job of finding the hot hand and feeding them the ball every chance they could”, Cleaver added.
Defensively, Ashley Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) led the charge for WPU with 11 digs.
Next up: William Penn will host Clarke in Heart of America Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at 7 pm in the Penn Gymnasium.
